David Maduli’s work, often inflected by many years as a public school teacher and DJ, has received the Joy Harjo Poetry Prize. Born in San Francisco, he is a father of two and a longtime resident of East Oakland where he completed his MFA at Mills College with a fellowship in Community Poetics. His work has been showcased at events such as SF Litquake and RAWdance’s Step/Song/Story series, and his poems appear widely in journals and anthologies including Sonora Review, Cream City Review, and Kweli Journal. He has received residencies and fellowships at VONA/Voices, Las Dos Brujas, Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing and Napa Valley Writers’ Conference. In addition to his work as an educational leader and researcher, he is an instructor of poetry craft and literature in the MFA in Writing program at Lindenwood University.
